Welcome to the Richdon Koi Farm
The Richdon Koi Farm has been formed to grow and develop young tategoi nishikigoi, specially selected from some of Japans major breeders like Dainichi, Seki-guchi, Hoshikin and our own Richdon Exclusive.
These aren't just any koi that have been labeled with the word Tategoi to increase the price, these are Koi which the breeders themselves and Richard hope and believe will improve given time and growth and most importantly the right conditions.
Rather than hiding away the best stocks we've imported into the UK we have decided to show them off, by having them for sale whilst they grow on throughout the summer months in our specially built 200 tonne indoor growing on pond we are giving the opportunity for hobbyists to purchase some very special tosai and watch them develop in a safer and more secure environment here in the UK whilst potentially matching growth rates and developments to those that are left in Japan.
Each koi on this web site has been hand selected in Japan by Richard and the breeders from thousands of high class koi to be grown, improved and more importantly enjoyed here at Richdon Koi Farm.
Our track record over the years speaks for itself, where customers have left special young koi with us to be grown at stable rates in their second season.
Over the years Richard has selected and provided many show winning young koi, and over the past recent years, not only has Richard supplied prize winning koi at the BKKS National, but also many local shows spreading all over the UK. Certainly an amazing history showing the experience and accessibility to high grade koi Richdon has gained by building solid long lasting relationships with some of Japans top breeders.
The Pond:
Over the winter of 2007 / 08 we built a filtered 50,000 UK gallon indoor pond especially for growing on these young tategoi. Using the same filtration methods used by most modern Japanese fish houses’ we have built this pond to enjoy this wonderful art of growing tategoi. Each koi that is placed into this pond is worthy of being there on merit and, due to limiting the number of fish in there at any one time, will have a large amount of water in which to develop.
With public access accompanied with a member of staff, anyone visiting Richdon koi over the weekends can ask to see this breathtaking new venture, make sure you ask when you next visit, but if you can't wait, click here to see some photos now!
